Centering Meditation Series 1

As an introduction to centering meditation, this class is designed to give a weekly silent time and still space for the purposes of contemplative centering. Philip will provide students instruction on centering meditation and contemplative silence. Please bring a comfortable cushion to sit on the floor during meditation. If physical requirements limit your ability to sit on the floor, meditation seated in a chair is perfectly appropriate. You need not belong to a specific religious discipline in order to participate.

Instructor Philip Meckley, Ph.D., is a Professor of religion and philosophy at Kansas Wesleyan University. He enjoys a daily meditation practice in his free time and facilitating group meditation.

Fresh Face Makeup

Struggling to achieve that effortlessly polished look? Or maybe your makeup routine just needs a refresher. Enter makeup artist and cosmetologist, Michael Sengvilay! In this two-hour class, he will teach the basics of how to achieve a flawless, everyday face. With a few added tips and tricks, Michael will demonstrate how to go from an on-the-go look to an amped up look for a night out! The class will begin with a demonstration and lecture followed by try-on time with guidance from Michael. Students only need to bring a foundation in their shade and a mirror; additional makeup products will be provided for try-on.

Michael Sengvilay has been a cosmetologist for 9 years and is a certified hairdresser and makeup artist. Born and raised in Kansas, Michael has worked for Sephora, as a freelancer artist for weddings and events, and taught classes in the Wichita area.

Nourishing Herbs for Women's Health

Many herbs have medicinal components and then there are those that are considered especially nourishing. In this class we will explore three of those herbs and the manner in which they enhance our health and well-being. The gentle power of these plants can be used to renew energy, balance immune function, and restore a sense of calm awareness. The philosophy and tradition of Wise Woman, allopathic and Heroic approaches to health and healing, and the science and lore of the plants will be discussed. You will go home with herbs and ideas of how to incorporate their use in your daily life. We will prepare and sample simple herbal teas and infusions in class. Bring along your favorite mug or use ours!

Facilitator Melinda (Mindy) Graham, R.N., HTCP/I, FCN, is a nurse and energy medicine practitioner. She holds certification in Healing Touch, and is a HealthRHYTHMS drum empowerment facilitator. Mindy sees clients in private practice, provides classes and presentations, and creates drum events through Sparrow Song Healing Arts based in Chase County, Kan. She specializes in working holistically with women, infants and children with special needs.

Our hearts beat, we breathe, we walk in rhythm and we carry the rhythm of joy, but sometimes amid the challenges in life we feel disconnected and are lost from our rhythm, balance and harmony. Are you ready to recover the deep sense of peace, joy and power you were created to live? Learn a bit about the science and art of drumming for your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being.. No musical or drum experience needed! Drums provided; bring your own if you wish.
