Beginning Spanish Plus

Don’t stop with just one Spanish class! This class is for those who have taken a beginning Spanish course and want to continue to progress in understanding, reading and speaking Spanish. You will build on what you have learned and move toward increasing vocabulary, using verbs and developing your skill and comfort with Spanish. If you have taken Beginning Spanish with CLASS, the book you received will be your workbook. If not, we will have extra copies available for you. Also, bring your Spanish-English dictionary, notebook and pen. Please remember that learning a new language requires practice and dedication. For the fastest progress through Beginning Spanish Plus, set aside 20 minutes twice a week to practice outside of class.

Instructor Dina Girón was born and raised in El Salvador and has been living in Salina since 1997. She wants to give everyone a chance to learn a second language, English or Spanish, and looks forward to teaching you too.

During the first half of class, you will view poetry performance videos, read poems in the genre together then break down the mechanics of each style through the work of poets such as Edgar Allen Poe, Maya Angelou, Allen Ginsberg and Asia Greene. Epic, is an existentialist at heart and the author of the novel “Ill Digestions,” picture-book “Such a Little Apple” and numerous poetry books. John is currently part of the connected poet highway that stretches from Buffalo, N.Y., to Kansas City, across the Heartland following I-70 to Denver.

Beginning Mandarin Chinese Language & Culture

with Kansas State Confucius Institue

Are you curious about the Chinese Language? Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world with over one billion native speakers. This practical and fun Mandarin Chinese class will be taught by a native Chinese language speaker from Kansas State University Confucius Institute. This will be a six-week class for beginners. Each class will include one hour of language instruction followed by one hour of Chinese arts and crafts, including ink-painting, paper-cutting, opera mask painting and calligraphy. Anyone with an interest in learning Chinese is welcome.

Kansas State University launched its Confucius Institute in April 2015 in partnership with China’s Jilin University and Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters). Its mission is: -To promote, enhance and elevate understanding of the Chinese language and culture at K-State and the greater Manhattan community. ‌-To create exchanges between U.S. and Chinese academic institutions and communities. -K-State Confucius Institute has promoted a series of collaborations between K-State colleges, departments and units and China’s Jilin University.
