Gourd Holiday Ornament

Create one-of-kind holiday ornaments out of small gourds including the Kansas Buffalo gourds in this unique hands-on class. In this class, you will be given instructions on how to embellish your gourd in a variety materials and techniques. You will have the option of wood-burning, paints, inks, glitter and clay to create holiday ornaments to enjoy for years to come. Your course fee will include all the materials you need, but if you do have a wood-burning tool you are encouraged to bring it to class.

Gourd Jewelry

Did you know that gourds can make excellent jewelry and art pieces?  In this new class learn how to make beautiful gourd jewelry using gourd pieces that you will be able to embellish with a variety of techniques. Merril will instruct you on various finishing techniques including wood-burning, applying alcohol inks and stains and acrylic paint.You will also be able to add various stones, shells, other natural embellishments, “apoxie-sculpt” clay and wood cut-outs to your piece. Your creation will be sealed with stain varnish. The course fee includes all the materials you need, but if you do have a wood-burning tool you are encouraged to bring it to class.

Holiday Glow Centerpiece

Create a unique masterpiece to share this holiday season! Learn about Christmas greens as you make your own bouquet. Peggy will instruct you as you go, and your course fee includes all the materials you need to make a beautiful arrangement, including fresh flowers, ribbons, pods and more. Please bring with you two small to medium sized ornaments to add a personal touch to your piece.

Macramé Workshop: Create a Hanging Planter

Learn basic macramé terms and techniques while creating a hanging planter. You will learn how to customize and decorate your hanger with knots and fringe as well as how to hang your planter. In addition to your custom piece, you will also receive a macramé instruction booklet . All the supplies you need will be included in this class, including a small glass planter.

Make a Crocheted Wire & Bead Necklace

Learn to make your own, one-of-a-kind, crocheted wire necklace! Sandy and Jerri will walk you through the steps, and you will leave with a completed piece. Your course fee includes all the materials you will need, though you are encouraged to bring extra beads, an end clasp and your own jewelry tools if you would like. Wire cutters, needle nose pliers and crochet hooks are provided. Participants should be able to crochet a chain and braid. If you have no crochet experience, please let Renee know when you enroll.

Rural Americana Art: Barn Quilt Painting, Session 1

Exploring rural Kansas, you have likely seen beautiful barn quilts displayed on barns, but they also make a unique addition to porches, fence railings, garden sheds and landscape arrangements. In this course, you will work to create your own 2x2-foot square barn quilt suitable for outdoor display. You will select a beginner’s quilt pattern and paint colors, then learn about drawing with pencil and yardsticks, frog taping, and applying layers of exterior satin paints to create your one-of-a-kind piece. Your course fee includes all materials and you do not need to have artistic experience for this course. Please wear casual clothes you wouldn’t mind getting paint on.

This new class will allow you to create a beautiful centerpiece for your upcoming Thanksgiving dinner. Instruction will include tips on how to scale your centerpiece in relationship to the size of your table, and how to use harmonious color combinations. You will also learn how to secure unusually shaped elements in your design. Your course fee will include all the materials for your wonderful centerpiece.
